A Tree Hugger's Alphabet

SI 320: Graphic Design

I created this poster with tree lovers in mind. My audience is people who care about nature and are curious about it, including nature experts and people who don’t know how to recognize different types of trees. My design is simple and clean in order to make the poster friendly and easy to understand. I used an italic serif font because the movement and flow of the letters correlates with the curves of the leaves. Together, the elegant font and the leaves are beautiful to look at, as is nature. I used drawings of leaves of the different types of trees because it is easier to see the differences between them than the differences between real photos of the leaves, which often have busy backgrounds and various lighting differences. The drawings all share the same style, which gives the poster a coherent feel. Having a cohesive design across the poster helps draw in viewers and teach them the distinct characteristics of the different types of trees.
